Saturday: Flint and Genesee County will honor Mark Ingram with a homecoming celebration from noon-2 p.m. May 22 at Flint’s historic Atwood Stadium. Friends, family and fans will have an opportunity to cheer on the Alabama running back, Flint Southwestern Academy grad and former Grand Blanc student, for winning the Heisman Trophy and helping lead the Crimson Tide to a national championship.

Saturday: Participants are invited to join the Flint Downtown Development Authority for a spring planting. The event will start with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on the Kearsley/Saginaw streets flat lot, followed by the planting project that will beautify Saginaw Street and parts of the Flint River Trail. Saturday: East Village Magazine writers will be reading their works at Buckham Gallery, 132 1/2 W. Second St., from 6-9 p.m. The event, Ink Takes a Village, will include writers Grayce Scholt, Jan Worth-Nelson, Nic Custer, Alan Matthews and Kelsey Ronan.

Sunday: The Baker College Car & Motorcycle Show is set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 23 at Baker College’s Center for Transportation, 1717 S. Dort Hwy., Flint. The event, hosted by K-Leigh Promotions and Aileen M. England, will feature a disc jockey, refreshments, goodie bags, door prizes, lots of awards and free food to the first 100 entrants. Sunday: Foster Hope, an advocacy organization that raises funds to provide mentoring and life skills programs to foster children, is holding a carnival and motorcycle ride on Sunday, May 23 in downtown Flint. The registration for the ride begins at 11 a.m. for a 12:45 p.m. ride. There will be vendor booths, raffles and more in the downtown flat lot at the corner of Kearsley Street and Saginaw near UM-Flint. The cost is $15 for a single rider and $20 for double riders, including a meal. The Carnival will run from 2-4 p.m. on the flat lot with carnival food, inflateables, a $1 bike raffle, face painting, games and performances by kids. The cost for kids is $3 and adults are free. Sunday through Aug. 15: The Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) will be the only Midwest venue this summer for two major glass exhibitions. Lino Tagliapietra in Retrospect: A Modern Renaissance in Italian Glass features 160 works by Lino Tagliapietra, the revered Venetian maestro of glassblowing. Louis Comfort Tiffany: Objects of Utility, Objects of Art includes 40 of the finest leaded glass lamps created by the foremost American glassmaker of the Twentieth Century. Both exhibitions will open on May 23 and continue through August 15. The FIA is in the Cultural Center Park at 1120 E. Kearsley Street in Flint. Gallery hours are Mon. May 31: The Grand Blanc Heritage Museum will hold its annual Memorial Day Open House Monday, May 31, 2010, from 10 AM until PM. Volunteers will demonstrate traditional crafts such as spinning, weaving and woodcarving. Docents will be on hand to conduct tours of the Museum’s exhibits. The drawing for the 2010 Museum raffle quilt, “Pretty Posies”, will be announced at 3 PM. The museum is at 203 E. Grand Blanc Road, in the City Hall complex. Ongoing through May 29: The newest Discovery Zone exhibit at the Flint Children’s Museum, Grow Lab, will be featured from now through May 29. Hands-on activities will help children understand life cycles, pollination, gardening and more! Children can practice their gardening skills, observe plants and vegetables that are in the process of growing and check out the butterfly house with live butterflies and learn about the four stages of the butterfly life cycle. The museum is on the campus of Kettering University, 1602 W. University Ave, Flint. Hours are Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4/person for ages 1 and up.
